Actor Anushka Shetty Diagnosed With Laughing Syndrome

“BaahuBali” movie actor Anushka Shetty (42), who played the role of “Devsena” is diagnosed with laughing syndrome.

This medical condition is called Pseudobulbar affect (PBA).

She said in one of her interviews:

“I am suffering from laughing syndrome. I go on laughing for 15-20 minutes once it starts. I roll on floor laughing while watching any comedy or shooting a scene on movie set.

Due to this, the shoot often gets stopped.”

Doctors say that person suffering from PBA often display uncontrolled  feelings of joy or sorrow. This is a certain type of a neurological disorder, and science hasn’t found its cure yet.

Reasons behind Pseudobulbar affect (PBA)

Chances of PBA increases in a patient after a head injury, Alzheimer, Parkinson’s Syndrome, multiple sclerosis or stroke. The victims often display symptoms of depression.

Although there is no treatment of this mental condition, yet it can be controlled to some extent by proper medication. PBA can have a long term negative side-effects on quality of work and social life. It can lead to depression and social isolation and other collateral damages

Similar hysterical laughing syndrome was brilliantly shown in the Joker movie. Joaquin Phoenix, acting as Arthur Fleck, suffers from similar mental disorder.

Such fits leave people around him confused, and he carries a card that explains his condition to avoid their hostility.
